Tornillo-Guadalupe Port of Entry – Phase I Roadway Construction

Providing geotechnical consulting and testing services for COEP Tornillo-Guadalupe Bridge Roadway Project.

Date Completed: August 2012

At CQC, we were proud to offer our geotechnical engineering consulting and testing services for the County of El Paso (COEP) Tornillo-Guadalupe New International Bridge Major Arterial Roadway Project. Spanning approximately 3.407 miles, this ambitious endeavor involved the construction of a vital roadway to enhance connectivity and transportation infrastructure in the area.

Our team focused on the geotechnical aspects of the project, ensuring the stability and integrity of the bridges along the designated route. The project featured three bridges: the Fabens Waste/Tornillo Canal Bridge, Upper Tornillo Drain Bridge, and Alamo Alto Drain Bridge. These bridges, with varying span lengths from 58 to 825 feet, were designed to cross over canals and drains.

To support the construction of the bridges, we provided expertise in designing and implementing abutments and bents. These structures were bolstered by 36" and 48" diameter drill shafts, reaching impressive depths ranging from 79 to 91 feet. In addition, rail support drill shafts were strategically constructed beyond the abutment ends, measuring 18" in diameter with lengths ranging from 41 to 63 feet.

Throughout the project, our focus remained on ensuring the highest quality standards. Our geotechnical consulting services offered critical insights into the soil conditions, foundation design, and overall stability of the structures. Rigorous testing procedures and thorough analysis were conducted to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry regulations.

By providing comprehensive geotechnical engineering consulting and testing services, our involvement contributed to the successful realization of the COEP Tornillo-Guadalupe New International Bridge Major Arterial Roadway Project. We take pride in playing a vital role in enhancing the region's transportation infrastructure and fostering improved connectivity for the community.
